your buns are hot
Although i only left for ubin on friday night, it seems that a long period of time has passed me by. Perhaps its the serene environment of ubin that makes you leave behind everything on the mainland. For those who are lost, i was at ubin for ODAC BTC 2006, which was extremely fun.
My group had a grand total of 6 people - 4 girls and 2 guys. The Y chromosome is seriously getting weak. And this is due, in no small measure, to gabriel (who kenna food poisoning on thur) and teck beng who pang seh-ed us for his class gathering -_-. Anyway I had Carmen, Charlene "Bright" Ooi, Michelle, Clara "Braveheart" Chong and Mr Eugene "The" Ong in my group. So basically during the camp, we were the smallest group with our sister subgroup having twice the number of people as us. I won't say having a small group is bad but its just different group dynamics. With a large group you usually get things like hikes done faster, a small group tends to do it slowly and focus more on talking, singing wadnots. Anw, with jon sng as grp leader, it is as if there are 2 more people, hur. (just jking :P)
Anyway, the camp begun with a nighthike once we arrived and our group did quite ok. We even had spare time to get lost and then backtrack. Then the night was some bomb, the mosquitos pissing me to no end. Resulting that from 2am (lights out time) till 4am, i got no sleep. Onl y after that did i manage to go see zhou gong after 4 am. So all in all, 2 hrs of sleep.
Then the morning had a morning jog (which someone gave me false information that it was 6 km) and then some skills learning before the Adventure Race. Our group was quite fun. Our first station kenna the seniors-go-all-out-to-throw-water-bags-at-us, under-a-pretence-to-pierce-some-stupid hoola hoop wrapped with paper. Then we had to got to Maman beach and so we played Wus' game. Then it was to chek jawa which was so far and we played hu-lin's station. And what started as an extremely sunny and hot afternoon became a mega downpour by about four, and when you are on the other side of the island and have to get back to campsite, its no joke.
So cooking was incredibly fun. Now i realise how totally deprived i was during NP camps. And i think i can cook pasta quite well, controlling the flame and amount of water to get pasta of the right texture. Of course, prego canned tomato pasta sauce just rocks lah. And the group that did the melted cheese, nice try, it was quite good lor. And the tang yuan group......what they put in the tangyuan is damn suspicious, like i think it makes you uber high or something.
OH, i MUZ blog this. While cooking pasta, someone in the group accidentally toppled the mess tin so the pasta was gonna fall out. Then clara's reaction was to give a really ear piercing, earth shaking, time stopping scream and i just stunned, causing me to lag about 2 seconds b4 moving my hand to pick up the mess tin. Well done, ms clara chong.
Then neville and his batchmates popped by. Just to give you a rough gauge. My batch is batch 22, and his is batch 16. Gives you a good idea how "young" they are. But anyway, was really surprised and glad he made time to come check out the 5 np guys who were in BTC. Appreciate his efforts lor, our good ol' HO.
Campfire in the night. It was quite random cause the groups had very very little time to prepare. And i thought my group was damn bad liao but seeing the other groups performance was kinda reassuring. Group one's community song was totally stunning. Anyway most of the groups just did a rojak of songs. Even though the performances were rather incoherent, i think the groups enjoyed themselves performing and preparing.
Our group chose to do pick up lines. And the most bomb of them all was the:
Girl A: Is your father a baker?
Girl B: No, why?
Girl A: Coz your buns are damn hot.
And yes, your eyes are not faking you. It was 2 girls who acted as a lesbian couple. Damn hilarious. And the cat high guy and sarah did a realli good job acting as a waiter and dao girl respectively. Of course not forgetting Mr Shah's PUL:
Shah: Can i have your photo?
Sarah: Why?
Shah: Coz i want to show santa what i want for christmas.
Then they had the tarzan game, which was a really intricate plan to sabo the one volunteer. And so i heard group 1A murmuring a "gerald" to sabo and i almost died. But luckily it was encik tay who kenna, not me. And you should have seen how freaking funny he was, puffing up his chest and giving one loud "Or-ee-Or-ee" and then going "oh shit!". Good job mr gerald tay.
After campfire was the solo night hike. I think it was a really good experience if you don't care about ghosts or whatnots creatures in the forest. It gives you a chance to be silent and listen to the sounds of nature. From blasting techno music, to tong hua, to jj lim, to toads and to the darkest creatures of the forest within. It was really tranquil and serene man. And encik tay thought that it was a 6km hike alone in the dark, so he began to run...good job mr gerald tay.
Finally got back to sleep at campsite. And this night was a really sweet 5 hr sleep through, thanks in no small measure to our 东南西北 mosquito coil formation. The night before only left me with a miserable 2 hour sleep cause the fat mosquitos of ubin were totally raping me upside down...
Then there was med evac this morning and i was really impressed with group 4. I mean we thought we would take a long time to dismantle the tents (15 min) when we made it under 10. Then the stretcher was very solid even though we took a little long. Then we just chiong-ed towards the heli site. And for future med evacs, never try and use your shoulders to lift the stretcher, it is really stupid, you will KO.
So ate at changi village with james, pau, willy and a few members of group 1A. Too bad bala's cafe was closed. Shit. And now i have a craving for holland v nasi lemak and choc bun...Then took 59 all the way back to RJ, before pau's mum gave me a lift home. Whoa, you won't believe how dirty 2 days in ubin has made me. I totally stank and my feet are like...as willy puts it: "they are rotting". I bathed twice and they still got a sour smell.
So with the whole camp over, i think it was an incredibly fun experience. One lesson i took home was probably that planning and embarking on expeditions is a very heavy responsibility, everyone must do their job and no one should slack off because it will just snowball into a major problem. Am looking forward to making even more friends, especially those from other groups. Thank you group 4b, and jon sng, valerie and felly. haha. Love you guys lots...
P.S. For those future inventors and geniuses, will someone pls invent anti mosquito prickly heat powder. That will totally rock.
Am now hooked Right here waiting for you by richard marx.
Oceans apart day after day
And I slowly go insane
I hear your voice on the line
But it doesn't stop the pain
If I see you next to never
How can we say forever
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
I took for granted, all the times
That I though would last somehow
I hear the laughter, I taste the tears
But I can't get near you now
Oh, can't you see it baby
You've got me goin' CrAzY
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
I wonder how we can survive
This romance
But in the end if I'm with you
I'll take the chance
Oh, can't you see it baby
You've got me goin' cRaZy
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
