Woah...i won't even bother counting how long since i've updated. well this ain't good but let's remedy it now.
Finally caught harry potter and the order of the phoenix on monday despite warnings that the movie sucks. The tickets were cheap due to some buy 4 for the price of 3 thingum and so it wasn't that much a waste spending money on what turned out to be quite a poor showing.
I doubt anyone really needs a review of the movie but its been a long time since i caught one (and even longer till i catch another movie) so its fitting to do a review of sorts. The opinions here are exclusively those of me, myself and I so if u do not agree, i'm most sorry.
We'll start with the characters. Yeah, the same ol actors as harry ron and hermione. Their performances were not particularly outstanding though ron hardly had much of a role and hermione has a serious receding hair line. Actor potraying Dumbledore was a disappointment seeing as he couldn't bring out the power and respect associated with Dumbledore. The scene where he trooped out to stop umbridge throwing Trelawney out was terribly lacking, he was more like being a pai-kia and swaggering than aweing. Cho-chang, as many commented, was not good looking, but hey you can't expect a supporting actress to outshine the multi-million dollar worth emma watson right.
In my opinion, the best potrayed and most interesting character was Luna Lovegood. Her whimsical voice, dreamy eyes and pale hair brought out the character she was meant to be. And this was the one character that had the most development in the show, what with all the meaningful dialogue with Harry.
And is it me or does Neville Longbottom look like Lupin?
Secondly, the movie did not follow the story. You may be inclined to think me unnecessarily anal about this, but in my opinion, most of us love the Harry Potter book for the story and it seems a pity for them to bungle a perfectly beautiful story. Like for instance how the kids had to go through numerous traps and stages in the mysterious Dept of Mysteries before they fought with the death eaters. How the kids arriving in hogsmeade on the hogwarts express should have been dressed in their robes, not civillian. Like how OWLs should be written on parchment, not nicely printed coloured paper. And many other details that slip my mind.
thirdly, the cinematorgraphy wasn't good. Many scenes were not properly brought out to convey the significance of the scene in the story and the poor cinematography also led to poor character development. For instance, they did not show how frightening it was for hermione and ron to ride on the thestrals, riding on something they totally couldn't see. The fighting seen between Voldemort and Dumbledore was pathetic as well. The book mentioned using the statues in the ministry hallway to fight and defend the wizards and that was a visual treat that was left out totally.
as for the kissing scene, that was super awkward, i felt it was quite meaningful actually. many people were puzzled how the mistletoe suddenly appear but i theorise that since its a room of requirement and potter and cho wanted to erm kiss so the room met their needs and produced the mistletoe. how sweet yea.
i guess for those who don't read the book, this movie will just be another feel good interesting magic movie. but for audience like me, who follow the story, the movie is a rare chance to see your imagination of the Hogwarts, the people, the setting and the story the action to be shown visually, hence it was really wasted how many parts were not mentioned at all and many others were not realised to their full potential.
as surely as reviews differ from audience to audience, im kinda unsatisfied by the fifth movie for one simple reason. It was so rushed it failed to bring out the changes and strains in the friendship between the two trusty friends and failed to do much in the way of character development.
