you know you're no longer J1when your year no longer begins with "tutorial 0" but some shit about vectors. you know you're no longer J1 when you dont see yourself sitting in circles playing "OG Games" or having OG Lunch/dinner. your plans for the day do not feature any og outings or meeting anymore.

and you realise that you've turned J2. you recall the times of orientation and og, of carefree days thinking about your cca. and realise that all that, like all things lived, has become a thing of the past - to be remembered but never lived again. because much as we love to, however wonderful it may be, we cannot relive our past.

the past few days have been spent interacting (a lot of calling and nagging yes) the j1 odacians wannabes in my group. and last night, the sight of them standing ntuc spliting the cost of the groceries was really all too familiar. i could only look gaze stare and remember the btc of a year ago.

a year ago, a group of 5 people set off on an exciting friday evening for pulau ubin. quickly realising that we were super outnumbered, the group stuck together nonetheless, living through moments of dropping-messtin-and-screaming or spouting pick up lines for campfire. all that and more is all too familiar. and today 3 remain as close odacians.

and one year later today, btc will take place once again. and what a great difference in purpose, preparation, attitude and mentality i bring along for this camp one year later. bearing the responsibility for 8 juniors sounds really easy on paper or on proposal. afterall, all you're supposed to do is just ensure their safe and orientate them. but there's really so many more things you have to do as a group leader, interacting with them throughout the camp. so many things required of you that were never down on your "job scope". no matter how tired you are, you're expected to be twice as alert and wakeful as them. no matter how shacked you are, the image of enthusiasm and passion must always be there.

and with all these, you realise that perhaps some part of you have "matured". perhaps there has been just that little extra bit in you vis-a-vis one year before. and you hope and pray that that little extra bit will serve you well.

for the next 3 days.
