Caught Inside Man today, a very educational and informative movie cum documentary on the workings of the human body. Using 4D graphics and real life videos, it uncovers interesting facts and debunks numerous myths about the human species. Even though it lasted 2hrs, it was not at all boring as it also included tales of how some individuals, when all the odds were against them, battled and overcomed. Tales of how some people never gave up when all seemed lost, like through disease and accidents. Truly an insightful display of how Man has functioned. Inside Man is certainly a very good watch and is one movie truly worth the ticket price.
That was of course, bullshit.
Inside Man is essentially about a "perfect" bank robbery in Manhatten. Clive Owen plays the mysterious leader of the 4 bank robbers who take out the bank without anyone even able to alert the police. Denzel Washington is cast as the NYPD negotiator and as we all know, he kicks ass when acting these kinda roles. So the usual police-waits-for-robber-to-make-demands shit begins. But this ain't your usual bank robbery movie for many many reasons.
The thing is the robbers don't touch the cash but are more interested in the contents of a certain safe deposit box 392. Turns out the bank chairman has some dark secret hidden within that very box and he hires Jodie Foster to either make the bank robbers hand over the contents of the box or get the contents destroyed. So what the hell is in that box anyway? It appears that the bank chairman had traded with the Nazis during WW2 and got quite a good amount of money, of which he used to start his bank. He betrayed a certain French Jewish family and in that box contains a diamond ring that belonged to them and was worth lots and lots. So Denzel begins to learn that the robbers aren't really here for the money or to kill the hostages but before he can really figure, the situation takes a turn when the planned tactical assault goes awry. The robbers allow all the hostages out but they are dressed exactly the same manner as the hostages and now the police can't identify who the hell are the culprits. Story progresses and Jodie Foster turns around to help Denzel obtain a court order and then he finds out the significance behind the ring and turns the chairman over to the war crimes office. And Clive Owen turns out to be hiding in the bank storeroom for a week and just walks out of the bank scot free.
Oh by the way, spoilers above.
What i really like about this movie is the robbers' pure ingenuity (the fake guns, the torch light, the jumpsuits) and the fact that it gets you thinking throughout. It also defies the traditional storyline for bank robberies as the focus of this robbery is not the money nor the hostages. The sulprits manage to get away free but you dont really feel there was much injustice cause they seem to have come for a less heinous reason. One thing i though could be improved is to shed a little light on the identity of Owen and how he got to know about all the existence of the ring.
Thanks goes to Mr Gerald Tay for being such an absolute banana and also to Maire Lim for sitting in the cinema in the most unglam manner known to Man (no she was not sitting inside man) and to Lynette Chua for erm covering her ears during the gunfighting scene.

So wednesday was the last kayaking session and i must say i will really miss it a lot. I will miss the feeling of serenity in the sea, the occasional flypast of the planes, and even the capsizing. I must admit i really hated capsizing but in 2 star you just have to capsize many times and remain calm underwater that that initial fear is all gone, as if it has really been swept away by the waves.
I guess it really has to do with your mindset. I am suddenly reminded of something Lupin said to Harry in the third Harry Potter book. That Harry's "greatest fear was fear itself". Perhaps for many of us, our greatest fear of things is that feeling of fear and unless you conquer that its gonna haunt you on and on.
i have told many people that i really like kayaking but the true reason why, even I do not know. Perhaps its just that unusual setting away from land, away from where we usually are. It kinda takes away the usual distraction that day to day life has placed in front of you and let you focus on stuff that your eye will usually miss, like the sky, the sea, the tankers, the sun, the people.
Anyhow, will miss kayaking sessions.
Till next time.

I know this is a little late but better late than never nonetheless. Monday was a school holiday to reward our hard work for the RJC opening. Well sometimes i really dislike holidays cause even though i always plan to set aside time to do my work at a good pace or to read some magazines and books, it always ends up burnt either on the computer or the bed. And it results in me doing even lesser work than on normal weekdays.
But then again i wont complain about this holiday because it allowed time for an odac outing which is something really on my mind since MAC. And what's more i could celebrate my birthday having a good time with the odacians which is really a gift. So went to east coast park to skate/blade and me being the brave soul i was decided to blade even though the last time i bladed was in pri sch and i forget even how to execute a t break. So there you see me just trying to slow down to a halt and praying that friction and air resistance don't decide to take a "holiday" on me. 2 major accidents that day and one was truly very very freaky. But at least no lasting damage done so its ok, fortunately.
And skating really tones your lower body cause it left me having a pain in the ass and pretty much everywhere else. Should skate more then i'll get that mo2 gui3 shen1 cai2.
