Why is it our tent poles always don't last?
Simply because they are merely tentpolerary.

o.O

Right.

Day THREE: And so we turned in for the night with the knowledge that there was basically no wake up time for the next morning, the next day being designated as a R & R day. R & R being reduce and reuse of course. R & R is rest and relax lah. I don't know why i must mention this but some bug bit me and left a shit painful stinging bite that woke me up, preventing me from an yi4 jiao4 dao4 tian1 liang4 sleep. And i woke up to see 3 holes in the tent, scary shit i tell you.

Anyway, day 3 being a relax day, we basically woke up around 8am. I distinctly remember being awoken by the sounds of Sauling and Mr Leong conversing in cantonese, with "Qin Gum Xiu Zei" as one of the things said. (To those suspecting my schizophrenic nature, Mr Leong is not me, but mr leong chee mun, da man who scaled everest.) Opened the tent flap to be greeted by the sun shining upon the white sandy beach, its literally having a beach at your doorstep. Breakfast was kaya or nutella with bread and milo which was damn shiok. Then the morning was free and easy so we could do anything we wanted. Some decided to play frisbee, others cards and others just strolled along the pristine (whoa big word) beach.

Me, james, gerard and gavan decided to take off our shirt and check out the...corals near the beach. So don PFDs and goggles and decided to swim a little out and i was really surprised to be able to see corals, albeit very few of them. Saw some colourful tropical fish and basically just frollicked in the water. After an hour or so, we came back up for lunch. Which we cooked pasta with carbonara sauce. Which was so good. so good.

And since we had a bit of spare time, Willy (willy being the person and not anything else) and me decided to commence Operation Green Bean. So Mr Beans managed to borrow mr kiwi's (who is the owner of paka river camp who has a very lovely son who followed us) kitchen and pot. The pressure pot does wonders man and we got it all done in about 45 minutes. A pity we too hum chee, so put too little water and turned out there was soooo much green bean and so little soup. But we thank the teachers for being our most appreciative patrons who basically finished half a pot (or more) among themselves.

The afternoon programme was a little more exciting. Planned a little trip to a nearby island to snorkel, where the corals were supoosed to be much better. So to much moaning and groaning, we boarded our kayaks (today we had Charlene with me) and kayaked an hour to the island. Basically this was a bitchless island. Oh i meant beachless island, so we couldn't beach up and just left the kayaks towed together. Using the borrowed snorkelling masks from mr kiwi, i took a plunge into the water and omg, i was really quite overwhelmed by the sight. The sight of the deep but rather clear waters, the large corals deep inside the waters and the many many school of fish all swimming around. The splendour and colour of the fish was really something unlike any i've seen before. Swiftly borrowed Gerard and Meiting's underwater cameras to snap pictures (which i hope they've developed. this is a hint.) of fish and corals. Michelle was being quite bomb, diving with her PFD on.

Then after 1 hour, we were told to leave but the surprise was that the paka people would be taking us on board the mother fishing boat. Everyone was damn freaking happy. So the whole lot of 50 plus of us squeezed on board this wooden boat the size of about 2 bumpboats and the result was some even sat on the roof. Was quite cool riding at the back except that i was freezing and taking in all the noxious engine fumes all the time. Happily sang several love songs with james and ryan for reasons that we shall not reaveal here.

Returned to Tenggol and the last stretch we just swam from the mother boat to shore. Washed up (in almost pitch darkness cause the generators haven't come on) and dinner was catered. Beef rendang but it was still good. Oh they also decided to show an accompanying movie at the tenggol resort. The Wig. Which is some korean horror flick which is oh so good for dinner and for a deserted island at night. Well, yours truly being the hum chee (but sensible) person i am, didnt want to jeopardise dinner and sleep, so i decided to eat away from the tv and screams and moans from the girls screaming their asses off but still determined to watch. Some even turning their backs totally to the TV, but determined to watch nonetheless, you ask me how i cannot answer.

Oh yes, opened canned longans that were ice.cold. and super shiok. 2 cans somemore, shiok like bomb. I swear they put drugs into longan syrup, its so damn addictive. After dinner, it was a mad frenzy to pack up as much as we could and prepare for the early arousal tomorrow morning. At 4 freaking am. Slept tight that night and tried to get as much sleep (fortunately no wigs shit for me) as i could. And that concludes day 3, leaving me with a super interest in doing more snorkelling and diving.

Because she vehemently protested against blogging about this, i must put this up. Basically when walking up the overhead escalator cum bridge at far east, Kelly Ng (the buay song one, yes.) said: "I don't want to take CTs" and straightaway, in the speed of light, she missed a step up and fell in a most unglam manner totally, almost giving away (what i believe to be) her virgin kiss to the floor. And so it has begun, the secret bewitchment on our mouths and limbs, that ensures all who curse the CTs will get their due punishment. B.e.w.a.r.e.

I don't know if this is a sign or what but suddenly i have the bobbing-up-and-down-in-a-kayak feeling. Looking back i think one of the greatest things i will miss most about JEX (besides the odacians for we will certainly see each other again) would be Tenggol island and its beach. Granted, its not a super impressive island, but the uniqueness of what i describe to be vegetation growing on rock surface right as you near it is truly special. Also the feeling of exclusiveness, the feeling of having the island all to yourself, as if something magical froze that place and time just for the very people who matter most. And i will truly miss that feeling of having no one else but the odacians and the surrounding, a true home in that seemingly inhospitable place. I will miss the feeling of waking up to the entire beach at your feet, the feeling of walking around everywhere with your trail slippers, the feeling of just roaming around with no one else but family around.

And with a beach like this, who wouldn't?
